Doodly Doodle is a painting app for iPad, iPhone and Mac. It is built so that your paintings stay yours: the app collects no personal data, has no accounts, and contains no analytics, advertising or tracking.

Your paintings

Paintings, books, brushes and settings are stored on your device, inside the app's own storage. They are never sent to us. Each painting also keeps a copy as a .doodly file in the Files app under Doodly Doodle: in your own iCloud Drive, so your other devices have it, or on your device if you turn that off in Settings › Storage or iCloud is off. Your iCloud Drive belongs to your Apple Account; we cannot see it.

Learn and practise keeps your practice days (calendar days, with no times) and which lessons you have finished on your device; the drawings you make while practising stay in the app's own storage and are never sent anywhere. With Sync practice with iCloud on (it is, unless you turn it off in Settings › Practice), your practice days and finished lessons, and nothing else, travel between your devices through your own iCloud, under a random identifier the app makes for each device. We cannot see them. The optional practice reminder is a notification scheduled on your device at the time you choose; nothing is sent to set it up or to show it.

Nothing else leaves your device unless you choose to share it, for example by exporting an image or video and sending it with the share sheet, drawing together with someone, or sharing achievements with Game Center.

Achievements

Achievements are optional and off until you turn them on in Settings › Achievements. While they are on, the app counts on your device: the number of strokes you draw (up to 5,000,000), the dates you draw on (up to 100 dates, as calendar days, with no times), and which motions, media, effects and brushes you have used. It also reads your practice days, streak and lessons. Nothing is counted before you turn achievements on or while they are off, and the counts are never sent to us. Your paintings are not part of any of this.

With Sync achievements with iCloud on (it is, unless you turn it off), each of your devices keeps these counts in your own iCloud, under a random identifier the app makes for that device, so every device signed in to the same Apple Account can show your totals. We cannot see them. Turn syncing off and the counts stay on that device. Turning achievements off stops counting at once; Delete achievement data, in the same place, erases that device's counts and badges, on the device and in iCloud. Each of your other devices keeps its own counts until you delete them there.

Sharing achievements with Game Center is a second, separate choice, also off until you turn it on. Then only the badges you have earned, not your counts, dates or paintings, go to Apple's Game Center under your Game Center player, and your Game Center settings decide who can see them. We cannot see your Game Center account. Turn sharing off to stop sending badges; badges already sent stay with Game Center, where Apple's own settings manage them. See Game Center and privacy.

Drawing together

Draw together is optional. It uses SharePlay and your existing Apple Account; there is no Doodly Doodle account, and nothing is shared until you start or join. When you do, only the shared painting (the new canvas, or the whole copy of the painting you chose, with its hidden layers and reference images) and the strokes you paint go to the one other person drawing with you. They are not sent to us or to anyone else, and the app adds no tracking. Apple states that SharePlay data is end-to-end encrypted and that Apple cannot read it: see Apple's SharePlay security and FaceTime and privacy. Apple handles the connection itself, including the information it needs to connect you.

The other person can keep a copy of what was shared, and stopping doesn't take it back. The copy each of you keeps is saved like any other painting, in your own storage and, if you use it, your own iCloud Drive.

Photos and files you bring in

If you save an export to your photo library, the system asks for permission to add photos. The app only adds the images or videos you export; it never reads your library. Reference images, line drawings and PDF coloring books you pick are copied into that painting or book only, and brush files you import into your brush library; none of them is sent anywhere.

Purchases

Optional purchases are handled by Apple through the App Store. We receive no payment details. The app asks Apple which purchases your Apple Account owns so it can unlock them.

Crash reports

If you have chosen to share analytics with app developers in your device's settings, Apple may send us anonymous crash reports and usage statistics. You can change this in the system Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements.

This website

doodlydoodle.app uses no cookies or analytics. Our host, Cloudflare, processes standard request information such as IP addresses to deliver and protect the site.

The Give feedback button on each page is provided by UserJot. Every page loads it from UserJot’s servers, which therefore receive the same standard request information, and it keeps one small setting in your browser’s local storage. What you write there, and any name or email address you give, is stored by UserJot, may appear on our public feedback board, and is read by us. UserJot’s own privacy policy applies to it.

Children

Because the app collects no personal data, it collects none from children either.
